VASER Ultrasonic LipoSelection®

Compare VASER Lipo and Discover the Difference

Ultrasonic energy has been used for years in a wide array of medical applications — from catching that first glimpse of a baby to cleaning your teeth. Now the gentle power of ultrasound has evolved to fat removal. VASER LipoSelection, uses an ultrasonic technology that is tissue-selective. The ultrasound energy targets unwanted fat, but preserves other surrounding tissues ' such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue ' to promote smooth contours and rapid healing. Maximum results and minimum downtime are what you can expect with VASER LipoSelection.

What Can I Expect During a VASER LipoSelection Procedure?

1. The fatty layer is infused (injected) with tumescent fluid.

2. The high frequency vibration of VASER ultrasonic probes causes the fat cells to break apart and liquify into the infusion fluid.

3. Liquified fat is easily removed via specially designed liposuction cannulas.

4. During the healing process, your skin will retract (or "shrink down") to give you a smooth, natural looking result.

What is VASER LipoSelection? How does it differ from traditional liposuction?

VASER LipoSelection, is an advanced body contouring procedure that selectively removes unwanted body fat.  An alternative to traditional liposuction techniques, VASER LipoSelection uses state-of-the-art ultrasound technology designed to gently reshape your body.  What distinguishes the VASER LipoSelection procedure is its ability to differentiate targeted fat from other important tissues, such as nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue. Innovative VASER technology breaks up fat while preserving these other important tissues to promote smooth results and rapid healing.

How does VASER LipoSelection work?

First, the area to be reshaped is filled with a special saline solution (tumescent solution) that helps numb the site and shrink the blood vessels (to minimize the risk of bleeding and reduce bruising). This solution fills up the area to be treated, making it easier to break up fatty tissue with the VASER LipoSelection system's ultrasound energy. Then a small probe transmits sound energy (similar to that used for cataract removal from the eye) to break up fatty tissue on contact while preserving other important tissues. Finally, the liquified fat is removed through a gentle suction process designed to minimize damage to surrounding tissues.

What is the difference between SmartLipo and VASER LipoSelection?

SmartLipo is another type of liposuction commonly in the news today. SmartLipo can achieve the same results as the VASER but uses a different mechanism. SmartLipo uses a laser to accomplish the same thing the VASER accomplishes with ultrasonic energy. VASER uses a high frequency ultrasonic soundwave and SmartLipo uses a beam of laser light to break up and liquify the fat prior to its removal. Dr. Revis prefers to use the VASER because it eliminates any safety concerns surrounding the use of lasers in the operating room.

What body areas can be treated with VASER LipoSelection?

Dr. Revis has experienced great success in treating all of the following areas: abdomen, thighs, knees, buttocks, hips, back, arms, male and female breasts, love handles, chin, neck areas and just about any other body part you need treated. The treatment of Gynecomastia in men has been revolutionized by the advent of VASER LipoSelection.

How much fat can be taken?

There are limits to how much fatty tissue can be safely taken from the body. One way to get a good idea for yourself is to stand and bend from the waist. The amount of "loose-hanging" fat you can easily grab above/below your waist will approximate what can be removed. Bear in mind that this procedure is not intended as a weight loss solution. The goal is to create a slimmer silhouette. You may not notice a significant amount of weight loss, but you should be pleased with your slimmer new shape. I like to tell patients that they will notice a much bigger difference in front of the mirror than they will when they step on the scale, because fat is lighter than water and does not weigh very much. It's about volume reduction, not weight reduction.

Where is VASER LipoSelection performed?

Like any other surgery, Dr. Revis only performs VASER LipoSelection in a fully accredited ambulatory surgery center or full service hospital with M.D. anesthesiologists in the interest of your safety.

How soon will I see my results? What is the recovery time?

This varies with the extensiveness of the procedure ' the amount of fat removed, the number of sites treated, and so on. Postoperatively, you will wear a compression garment for three weeks, which decreases your swelling and encourages the skin to "shrink down" to your new underlying contour. Many patients report that they see results immediately after the procedure with the final result at around 3 to 6 months.

What about future weight gain or fat migrating to other areas?

This is a common misperception. Following your VASER Lipo procedure, should you experience weight gain or loss, it will tend to be proportionately distributed over your entire body. Once you have fat removed, it is gone and, assuming a healthy lifestyle of proper diet and exercise, it will not return or migrate.

How can I be certain VASER LipoSelection is right for me?

If you are frustrated by the resistance of certain body areas to diet and exercise, VASER LipoSelection can provide a solution. If you are healthy and seeking a fast, low-pain solution to losing stubborn fat deposits, the VASER LipoSelection procedure could be your answer.
