BioMedic MicroPeel and MicroPeel Plus

The MicroPeel is a simple process performed in Dr. Revis’ office that removes the outermost layer of the skin. This outermost layer is a significant obstruction to having better skin because it is composed of dead skin cells and clogged pores. The procedure is safe and is accomplished in approximately 30 minutes.

How is a MicroPeel performed?

The initial step is a gentle cleansing of the skin to remove the surface oils and dead layer of skin. A mild solution of alpha-hydroxy acid is then applied which accentuates the removal of dead skin cells and cellular debris. The final step is cryogenic, involving the light application of frozen carbon dioxide in gentle, circular motions. This cooling step also has an anti-inflammatory.

How often would I have to have this treatment?

Treatment is individualized for each patient. However, most patients are recommended to have a treatment once every three to four weeks over four to six months in combination with a daily skin care regimen performed at home.

How will I look after the first treatment?

Unlike a facial, most people will notice a change in the skin right away. You can apply your makeup immediately following the procedure. Fine lines and brown spots will be diminished. A change in skin texture can be felt right away by brushing your hand across your cheek. Your skin will have a more smooth and uniform appearance.

Can this type of treatment be bad for my skin?

If you are pregnant, lactating, taking Accutane or have a chronic history of cold sores, Dr. Revis does not recommend this treatment. You should also be aware that since any exfoliation increases photosensitivity to the sun, you must use sun protection.

Can I use skin care products from Dr. Revis without having a MicroPeel?

You may chose not to have a MicroPeel. The same results may be achieved with the home care skin products, but it will take longer to see results and the effects may be less dramatic.

How much will the MicroPeel cost?

The skin care program is very affordable, equal to or less expensive than similar products available over the counter in many department stores. In addition, these products are prescription strength, therefore they are only available through a physician’s office. The home treatment kits range from $150-$195 depending on your skin type and should last four months.

The MicroPeel will vary in price depending on the different areas of your face and body that you may treat. However, generally speaking the price of a MicroPeel is consistent with the price of a facial.

MicroPeel Plus

The MicroPeel Plus is an exceptional skin renewal treatment offered by Dr. Revis. The MicroPeel Plus is a 30 minute in-office procedure that will help smooth fine lines and help even skin discoloration while simultaneously reducing the appearance of acne scars and environmental damage to the skin.

The MicroPeel Plus procedure stimulates cell turnover through the application of salicylic acid in the form of microcrystals using MicroSponge technology. These microcrystals target the exact areas on the skin that need improvement. The MicroPeel Plus aggressively outperforms other superficial chemical peels by freeing the skin of all dead cells while doing no damage to the skin.

How the MicroPeel Plus Works

The MicroPeel works in two ways. First, it loosens the bond of dead cells on the surface of your skin. By loosening this bond, these dead cells from the skin’s surface are shed, revealing the new cells underneath. The result is immediate improvement in the smoothness and radiance of your skin that you can really see and feel. Secondly, when the dead cells are removed, the MicroPeel Plus stimulates the new, living cells in your skin to reactivate the renewal process. Reactivation of the renewal process will lead to long lasting skin health and vitality.

Who Can Be Treated

The MicroPeel Plus is suitable for patients of all skin types. The amount of improvement will, however, vary based on the current condition of your skin. Some patients may be at greater risk for adverse reactions, therefore the initial skin care evaluation performed by Dr, Revis is extremely important. Those at greater risk are patients with active herpes simplex (cold sores) or any other viral infection, collagen disease or any other autoimmune disorder, and Accutane users.

Some minor conditions that may require special care instructions from Dr. Revis include: allergies, sun sensitivity, atopic skin reactions, seborrhic dermatitis and eczema. Patients who have allergies to salycilates should refrain from using this product. The MicroPeel Plus has not been tested on pregnant or lactating mothers, therefore Dr. Revis will not perform this procedure if you are pregnant or breast feeding.

Prior to Your Procedure

One week prior to treatment avoid:

Electrolysis

Waxing

Loofah or any other exfoliating product

Drying, irritating solutions including salicylic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or glycolic acid

To ensure even application and minimal discomfort, please arrive at Dr. Revis' office makeup free and perfume free. Otherwise, Dr. Revis will ask you to remove these in the office as they tend to prevent even penetration of the product during the peel. For men, it is best not to shave within a few hours of the MicroPeel Plus treatment.

Following Your Procedure

Apply BioMedic Extra Rich Moisturizer twice daily or as needed for seven to ten days.

Avoid the sun as much as possible. If in the sun, apply BioMedic Facial Shield SPF 20 or Pigment Shield SPF18 as often as possible.

Use a gentle, soapless cleanser for your face such as BioMedic Gentle Cleansing Bar. You may wash your face gently with your fingertips and pat dry with a towel.

Do not pick, scratch or peel your teated skin. Permanent scarring could occur if these actions are taken.

Abstain from any other facial treatments for at least one week after the MicroPeel Plus procedure. Also avoid hot environments such as sauna, steam bath, or the use of a hair dryer.

May I Have Multiple MicroPeel Plus Treatments?

Yes. In fact, the best results are achieved through a series of six treatments spaced at  four to six week intervals. In between, Dr. Revis will instruct you in the proper use of the home care products to maximize the improvement you experience. The number of MicroPeel Plus treatments you receive will depend upon your skin type, your discomfort level during the treatments, how much your skin type peels and the goals that you and Dr. Revis agree upon.
